A New Zealand war-hero, Clive Hulme, father of a former world car-racing champion,Denny Hulme, who was awarded a Victoria Cross for his bravery and heroic actions in Crete, has now 60 years later been inanely accused of war crimes because he allegedly dressed as a SS soldier when killing 33 German snipers and other German soldiers during the battle of Crete.
He shot them in that effective manner of First World war American Medal of Honour hero Sergeant York, made famous in the film of the same name about his expoits. If he had been caught it is possible that he would've been shot because he was out of uniform - but history and the fact he survived showed he wasn't!
During the Battle of the Bulge, German Otto Skorzeny-led troops dressed in American uniforms to get close enough to shoot American soldiers.
British commados claimed they often wore German uniforms to fool German patrols.
French resistance fighters were tortured (having toenails pulled out etc)because they didn't wear uniforms and were accused of being spies. They didn't have uniforms to wear.
It happened on both sides during both wars at times and didn't really constitute war crimes.
You cannot change history retrospectively because it is no longer considered politically correct by some wet behind the ears historian who has never faced an armed enemy in the anger of white hot conflict!
