Anti-smacking bill will bepassed within a month in NZ...

The anti-smacking bill which has created controversial debate in New Zealand, should be passed into law within a month after it received support from the minority Maori Party's four MPs.

Opinion polls and talk back shows appear not to support the bill. Opponents have claimed it will take away parents rights to discipline their children. Proponents say it is necessary but will still give enough for parents to protect their children from themselves.

A mother rang up a talk back show crying because she can only control her seriously ADHD affected son by giving him a smack; timeout doesn't work and he trashes the room when he is there on his own. Many children like this boy just don't understand what is said to them!

Filebusting by an independent MP has only delayed the inevitable it seems - he introduced 5o amendments that had to be debated and voted on. This bill is to become law!

Police chiefs are in the process of setting guidelines on how they will handle complaints about parents smacking children - the parents will have to be charged with assault if police accept there are charges to answer.

  • David Bain's last hurrah - appeal to Privy Council!

Final toss of the coin for convicted killer!

All avenues in New Zealand have now been explored.

Defence blames his late father for the mass killings!

The final step in a decade-long bid to free convicted murderer David Bain starts in London on Thursday.

He is serving a minimum 16-year sentence after being convicted of the 1994 murders of his parents, two sisters and brother in Dunedin.

A series of appeals to clear his name in New Zealand have been unsuccessful and the Privy Council in London is his final hope.

The hearing is set down for five days but it could be cut short if the Law Lords are swayed.

The team trying to get his conviction overturned believes it has a compelling case that his father was behind the 1994 slaughter in Dunedin.

New evidence will centre around bloody footprints found in the house. Bain's team will allege those footprints belonged to father Robin Bain rather than David.

If the Privy Council accepts the evidence of Bain's lawyers, it can order a re-trial.

The Supreme Court was set up in New Zealand in 2003 to replace the Privy Council, but some special cases are still accepted by the council for consideration.

  • Mesothelioma cancer victim wins a million bucks but...

An American man in his early forties learned he had an inoperable cancer, possibly Mesothelioma, and four days later won a million bucks in the New York state lottery with a $5.00 scratch ticket but...

Was he happy to have all this money, the fact he didn't need health insurance, and his life would be a little more secure in his final few days? Nope!

After he had moved to Philadelphia to check out a hospital specialising in inoperable Mesothelioma cancer treatment, he found out that he needed big money for a down payment of $125,000 and a money reserve of $250,000. And furthermore, to his great dismay, he learned the facts about the New York state lottery: You get paid out to the tune of $50,000 per annum over twenty years. He wouldn't be around to collect his money, his Mesothelioma getting the better of him.

Remember that old song about, " water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink."

He had loads of money, didn't need health insurance, but had a distinct cashflow problem - he would be dead with his possible Mesothelioma cancer before he got hold of his money!

Such is life, was his attitude. Whats a bit of bad luck when you have no luck at all? And there is nothing that Huttriver can do to help him! Even his attornies won't be able to take action for his Mesothelioma if he has grounds to sue.
