  • Today is Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand...

:D Today is Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand...

Today is Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand. This is the day we honour and remember our fallen heroes from all wars, and especially recall how the legend of Anzac began on April 25 1915 when members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps were dropped off on the beachs of Gallipoli on the Turkish coast as part of the British campaign to invade Turkey. The place is known as Anzac Cove today.

From the ships thousands of Australian and New Zealanders disembarked into the shallow waters under heavy gunfire, machine gun and rifle fire. Many were killed instantly, others made it to the beaches and were killed, others fought in the campaign during many months before being repatriated. Thousands were killed and wounded on both sides, Anzacs and Turks. Thousands were left behind to be buried in military cemetries. The campaign was a disaster; the Anzacs were landed on the wrong beach. The British High Command had failed dismally. The campaign involved British and other Empire troop, including Indians.

The Gallipoli campaign was to create not only the legend, but begin the journey of nationhood for Australians and New Zealanders, from British dominions to the self governing nations within the Commonwealth of today.

Today from Darwin to Perth to Brisbane to Melbourne and Sydney and the bush; from Auckland to Napier to New Plymouth to Wellington to Christchurch to Greymouth and to Invercargill, and scores of other towns and even at Gallipoli itself, will hold dawn parades to remember the fallen, and to retire later to RSL's and RSA's for a meal, a quiet drink and a chat with former comrades, friends and families and continue the spirit of Anzac which actually grows stronger with every passing year.

Lest we forget; we will remember them. The spirit and legend wll never die!
Labels: Anzacs, Australia and New Zealand, nations will never forget, war heroes

  • The original neighbour from hell is jailed for 6mths...

The original neighbour from hell is jailed for 6 mths...

An 81 year old pensioner, reported as Dorothy Evans, made Angela and Robeto Casa's lives a living misery, telling their 13 year old she was a witch and would cast a spell on her and her family and kill her pet dog.

Angela Casa detailed many disputes, including an attempt to run her off the road, and an assault with an umbrella. Evan's told the husband to go back to where he came from -Italy, dropped her trousers and mooned at her mother.

The Judge, Roderick Denyer QC, is quoted as saying," Its abundantly clear you won't change," adding," It seems to me, despite your age and infirmities, you have deliberately, for a period of ten years made life a misery for your neighbours."

I wonder how many complaints were made by the neighbours to housing authoriies and police before something was finally done. You can imagine them saying that an old dear like her couldn't possibly do such things?

  • Blogsites that drop off the edge for days at a time - Blogfeast and WritingUp...

I am a member of a few other blogsites, WritingUp.com and Blogfeast.net, both of whom drop off the edge quite often. These are community blogsites where members regularly join into little cliques of similar interest and enjoy the comments.

Of the two, blogfeast.net/referral77777753 is the better of the two and enjoyable to be a member of, when its not falling off the edge for days at a time. Then they are off to find new servers to accomodate their very large membership.

I hope things improve very soon.

Help save an endangered Aussie species - buy chocolate Bilbies this Easter...

Hi, my name is Dawn and I’am an endangered Australian Bilby. There are only 600 of us left in the wild and we need YOUR help to survive.

Buy chocolate Bilbies for Easter at your store or supermarket this week. Tell others of our plight!
    ……………………………………………………..

Since 2001, the main aim of the “Save the Bilby” Fund has been raising money for the fenced-off safe Bilby haven in Currawinya National Park in Queensland.

Rose- Marie Dusting is openly recognised as Australia’s “Original Bilby Lady” and creator of the emotive Easter Bilby concept. She focused on children by promoting an awareness of the need to protect Australia’s native species from extinction with her 1979 book, “Billy the Aussie Easter Bilby”.Read more

I’m a Kiwi from New Zealand, where we have great programs to save our endangered species, such as Tuatara lizards, various Dolphins and many native birds. We are extremely fortunate and probably spoilt in comparison to many other countries in that we have a fine state funded Conservation Department backed up by many scientists in various universities here. In Australia you have some great dedicated individual conservationists who have been responsible for setting up and supporting various trusts, such as that involving Rose-Marie Dusting.I support your Easter Bilby concept and will post on various of my blogs this week.
