NZ All Blacks off to France and the Rugby World Cup...

Sometime tomorrow the All Blacks rugby team and its retinue of management, coaches and support crew leave New Zealand for France, on their journey to find the holy grail of international 15- a- side rugby, the 'Rugby World Cup'. It will be the best prepared and selected team to leave the country for a world cup.

The tournament starts very soon and the favourites for the event, the New Zealand "All Blacks", arguably the greatest and most successful rugby team and brand during the last one hundred years, and the winner of the inaugural tournament 20 years ago are poised to win it for a second time this year.

They were rated as the No 1 side before and after the last world cup in Australia, won by England. The New Zealand collective psyche demands victory this year!

I will make a regular report on the tournament during the next seven weeks. The RWC is one of the major international sporting events of the year.

  • Teenaged girl sentenced for killing mother with an axe...

A Christchurch, New Zealand, teenager, Bonny McIntyre, was sentenced to life in prison for killing her mother with an axe

A Christchurch teenager who attacked and killed her mother with an axe while she was watching Coronation Street has been sentenced to the mandatory life in prison.

Bonny McIntyre was 16-years-old last November, when she went to her mother Moera McIntyre's house and struck the woman a dozen times about the head and neck with an axe. At the time her 15-year-old brother was in a nearby room. He did not hear the attack but later found his mother dead in a pool of blood.

As she was sentenced this morning, family members gave victim impact statements and spoke directly to McIntyre saying, "look at what you have done to us. Do you know what you have done to our family". Several times she responded saying "I don't know".

Name suppression was lifted at the request of the family.

Another sad case of teenage matricide.

  • Don't feel guilty about your morning coffee friends...

    Its actually good for you...

Don't feel guilty about your morning coffee fix because its actually good for your health.

A finding from Lincoln University( just outside Christchurch in New Zealand) researchers in the Agriculture and Life Sciences Division, said the study found coffee was a good source of antioxitants in the diet with antioxitant activity higher in white coffee than black.

Those having a short black expresso, however, wouldn't get the same benefit as cappuccino drinkers.

There had been a lot of research into flavour compounds in coffee beans but little about their health - promotion compounds when they were made into drinks.

But the study maintained the continued need for moderation. Enjoy that first cup in the morning, but don't go overboard is the advice from the researchers.

  • Is Lord Lucan alive and well in New Zealand...

Is Lord Lucan alive and well in New Zealand..

A former Scotland Yard detective is allegedly leading a new attempt to solve one of Britain's most enduring mysteries - the hunt is on for Lucan in a small North island town of Marton - population 6,000.

Lord Lucan vanished from the face of the earth after the 1974 killing of his children's nanny, Sandra Rivett, who was bludgeoned to death in London at the West End home of Lucan's estranged wife, multi-millionaire Lady Lucan; it is believed he mistook the nanny for his wife. His whereabouts has continued to intrigue British society ever since. Some believe he drowned in the English Channel, but there has been allegedly at least 70 supposed sightings in Australia, Holland, Ireland and South Africa.

There have now been new claims that the disgraced English peer is living it rough in the little New Zealand town of Marton in an old Landrover with a cat and a pet possum; this has been irrestible for former detective inspector, Sidney Ball, who reportedly solved 150 murders before retiring to New Zealand.

He has apparently been asked to check out claims that Lucan who would now be 72 years old, is living in the rural town. Mr Ball said he couldn't say more until he has completed his investigation there.
