  • Cellphone use and brain cancers a reality - five times greater in children...

:|Scientists have issued warnings to US legislators that the risks of brain cancer from cellphone use is real - people under 20 years are five times more likely to develop brain cancer from cellphone use.

These have come from David Carpenter, director of the Institute of Health and Environment at the University of Albany, who testified before the House sub-committee on domestic policy,"We must not repeat the situation we had earlier with the relationship between smoking and lung cancer." he said.

And another from Robert Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburg Cancer Institute, who said most studies that claimed no link between mobile phone use and brain cancer were outdated, had methodological concerns and did not include sufficient numbers of long-term mobile phone users.

People under 20 years were five times more at risk and likely to develop brain cancers.

  • The grapefruit diet alive and well...

I don't know about you folks, but I carry a bit of middle age weight that is difficult to get rid of. I was listening to a talkback radio program just last night, and a caller there praised the virtues of the humble grapefruit. It brought back memories of a popular diet of a quarter of a century ago - the grapefruit diet. So off to Google I went!

A new study by Nutrition and Metabolic Research Centre researchers at Scripps Clinic has confirmed that a simple act of adding grapefruit to your diet can result in real weight loss.

The grapefruit diet is not a myth. No, it is actually something an older generation knew 25 years or so ago. Grapefruit has a high fibre content and low glycemic load, and is a not so secret weight loss weapon. I didn't have a weight problem back then; I was a smoker and that was responsible for controlling my weight. Since then I have successfully given up smoking...and suffered the major side affect of giving up smoking - weight gain. Its all to do with a change in your metabolism.

The advice given last night has me seriously considering adding grapefruit to my diet - basically eating half a grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice with every meal.It apparently takes a couple of weeks before weight loss becomes evident.

  • The atom smasher is now online -- Hadron goes to work in October - another big bang, perhaps...

The most powerful atom smasher ever built came online on Wednesday, eagerly awaited by scientists worldwide for two decades. The machine is at CERN, the European organisation for nuclear research where a closer look will be taken at the make-up of "matter". This was a practice run with the actual collision to come in October.

The four billion dollar HADRON COLLIDER will explore the tiniest particle and come ever closer to recreating the "Big Bang" - the theory that a colossal explosion created the universe - the planets, moons and...life itself!

However, skeptics claim it could create micro black holes.

  • I recently wrote a post telling how my Adsense account was disabled...

I recently wrote a post telling how my Google Adsense was disabled and Senserely Yours.com has followed suit...

I recently wrote a post explaining how my Google Adsense account was disabled. I have emailed Google on a number of occasions without reply.

I believe that I am entitled to a reply to my enquiry, if not the actual details of the reason for the disablement of my account.Google have a monopoly in website advertising and have acted like a bully in this instance. It is also extremely unjust in the extreme!

Yesterday I received an email from Senserely Yours.com, one of my blogsites, who had also disabled my account there because my Google Adsense account had been disabled and they thought I was not blogging any more. When you take such action you need to do it on more than thought alone!

What ever happened to common justice. Well I will be spreading this post around my remaining blogsites, and Google will be responsible for any reaction or backlash. I believe other companies are seriously considering real competition to the monopolistic Google.
